Knit me in Trafalgar Square, London, is an event to inspire people to the possibilities of knitting and the things that they can make. It's not just the things we can make as individuals but the possibilities of what can be made collaboratively. My interest lies in the possibilities when people get excited about being creative and are full of ideas.

The piece of knitting will be one piece that will divide of into strips as people join. Each person that joins in uses their own yarn and needles so they can add to the knitting exactly how they want to.

It should be a great day and your invited and anyone else you know who would be interested! If you have anymore questions contact me at knitme@ymail.com

Knitting drop-in at Broca

The knit drop-in was fun, i got to do a bit of teaching and chat to people. Its been requested that it becomes a regular group so it shall be. It also meant that people made some good suggestions of places I could do some other knitting events. I am thinking I will do a knitting squares workshop with both the new knitting group and at a local festival. The workshop will focus on helping people design and create things from squares to help demonstrate how easy it is!

I love this bag

I am a member of ravelry.com and was trying to do a bit of spreading the knitting squares cause. And Ishi another member posted this bag above made up from squares...and it got me all excited! To find out more about it http://www.flickr.com/photos/ishi-knit/2959389951/

What I love about making things out of squares is all the possiblities and the idea of people getting excited about what they can make instead of following patterns.

How to make The Elsa Jumper

Making the Elsa jumper ...

The Elsa Jumper

The Elsa Jumper was created for friends who where expecting a baby. I wanted to make something that was my own and that reflected them as a couple. So I worked out how to make a jumper from squares.

I have used the Elsa jumper more than once to make Elsa new jumpers as she grows out of her jumpers by making the squares bigger.

I knitted the jumper using stocking stitch and rib but if you can't do these stitches it could be knitted in plain knit stitch [garter stitch ]instead.

Flickr

Knitting Squares has joined flickr. You can add Knitting Squares as a contact to see my square knitting creations but these will be on the blog also

Also you can join the group [ http://www.flickr.com/groups/984613@N24/ ] and add photos of your square knitting creations, as the aim of this blog is to inspire knitters to create without patterns. It will be a great way to get inspiration for your own projects too by seeing what other people have thought of doing as knitting squares isn't really about what I've done but about sharing the idea to encourage people. Normally knitting is taught by patterns, knitters develop through patterns and don't know how to or don't have the confidence to put them down. Everyone can knit by using squares, even if your squares aren't so square yet! I'm interested and excited by what other people will create and look forward to seeing your pictures on flickr.

If you don't have flickr but would like your pictures to be placed on the group I can do this if you email them to knittingsquares@yahoo.co.uk . Include your name [so I can put your name so you get the credit ] and any description you would like to go with the pictures.
